The differenceIPMILong-Term HealthTITravel Insurance
What it is forInternational private medical insurance (IPMI) for an ongoing healthcare arrangement abroad. Benefit modules, medical acceptance, residence eligibility and renewal terms determine the protection; no plan automatically includes every form of care.Protection for eligible unexpected events during a defined trip. Medical emergencies, cancellation, disruption and baggage are separate benefit sections. Maximum trip length, residence, purchase timing, activities and medical-history rules must be checked before relying on cover.
What triggers a claimEligible medically necessary treatment within the chosen benefits, area and accepted medical terms. An eligible unexpected illness, injury or specifically defined trip event during insured travel. Each purchased benefit has its own conditions.
Benefits that may applyHospital and day-patient care; outpatient, medicines, maternity, dental or other modules only where included. No plan automatically includes every type of care.Emergency medical, cancellation, curtailment, delays, baggage, liability or approved transport only when included and the defined event qualifies.
How it paysEligible medical expenses reimbursed, or eligible providers paid under confirmed arrangements. Deductibles, copays and limits can remain.Eligible trip losses or emergency medical expenses reimbursed under the relevant section; approved provider/assistance payments may apply. Excesses and sublimits matter.
How long it lastsAn ongoing healthcare arrangement with contract-specific renewal rules. Renewability does not guarantee fixed premiums or portability.Single-trip dates or annual multi-trip cover with a separate maximum length per trip. An annual policy does not mean a year-long trip is eligible.
Who receives paymentThe insured/policyholder for reimbursement, or an approved healthcare provider where payment arrangements are confirmed. The eligible claimant for insured losses, or approved medical/assistance providers where arrangements apply.
Medical history & acceptanceMedical history and the stated underwriting method can lead to exclusions, adjusted premiums, restrictions or decline. Chronic care in a brochure is not acceptance of your condition.Pre-existing conditions may be excluded or require a declaration and written acceptance. An emergency does not override an exclusion.
Important boundariesResidence, area, benefit sublimits, waiting periods, authorisation and exclusions matter. Direct billing and evacuation are not universal.Purchase timing, residence, itinerary, activities and travel advisories can restrict cover. Baggage, evacuation and every cancellation are not automatically insured.
What it does not replaceNot a substitute for defined-illness cash benefits, family death benefits or insured cancellation and baggage losses. Not ongoing healthcare, routine chronic monitoring or planned treatment while living abroad; not full life or defined-illness cash protection.
Overlaps & combinationsMay complement travel cover for trip losses, CI for qualifying cash support and term life for dependants. Coordinate medical reimbursement rather than assuming duplicate claims. Can complement an ongoing health plan with eligible trip-loss benefits. Temporary IPMI is a distinct option when routine care matters, not an automatic replacement.

Comparison questions

Which published facts matter for my comparison?

Match the legal issuer, residence market, product version, inpatient and outpatient benefits, treatment area and contribution rules. Then compare written medical acceptance, renewal and provider arrangements. Brand names alone cannot identify a suitable contract.

Are premiums available for ages 25, 35, 45, 55, 65 and 75?

No publication-ready matched prices are available here. The internal Thailand research sample has 17 plan quotations per age, below the 20-quote threshold, with deductible, tax and eligibility checks unresolved. It is not a public price index or proof of age-75 entry acceptance.

Does a newer brochure make an insurer better?

No. A document date identifies a version, not superiority or availability. Obtain the current policy for your residence and accepted schedule before choosing or replacing cover.
