Insurance

Travel Insurance

Protection for eligible unexpected events during a defined trip. Medical emergencies, cancellation, disruption and baggage are separate benefit sections. Maximum trip length, residence, purchase timing, activities and medical-history rules must be checked before relying on cover.

Who it may suit

A young child laughing while her parents swing her between them outdoors
  • Eligible holiday or business travellers seeking protection against unexpected trip events.
  • People comparing single-trip dates with annual multi-trip cover and its per-trip duration limit.
  • Travellers who already have ongoing healthcare arrangements but need to examine emergency and non-medical trip gaps.

No verified premiums are published here. A quotation depends on eligibility, selected benefits and accepted underwriting terms.

The quick answer

General guidance · verify the exact terms

Benefits and boundaries

Usually covered — when included and eligible

  • Unexpected eligible medical emergencies during the insured trip.
  • Cancellation, curtailment, disruption or baggage only under purchased sections and defined insured events.
  • Assistance-approved medical transport only when its separate conditions are met.

Often excluded or restricted

  • Routine appointments, planned treatment and chronic monitoring unless explicitly included.
  • Trips beyond duration caps, ineligible residence or purchase circumstances and excluded activities.
  • Existing conditions not accepted, foreseeable events, unsupported losses and charges above section limits.

When this may be a poor fit

  • You are establishing residence abroad and need regular prescriptions or ongoing care.
  • A single extended trip exceeds the policy’s per-trip cap, even if the policy lasts a year.
  • You need guaranteed acceptance of an existing condition or a discretionary journey home.

What drives the actual quotation

People & residence

Ages, residence eligibility, family composition and the actual issuing product affect a quotation. Each dependant needs accepted enrollment; a family application does not automatically remove individual underwriting.

Area & care modules

Compare the same area, including or excluding USA, hospital category and outpatient scope. Maternity, dental, mental health or evacuation can be optional, limited or unavailable. Ask what each choice changes in the actual quotation.

Costs you retain

Check deductible reset, copays, percentage coinsurance, sublimits and provider deposits. Request calculations under low-use and hospital-care scenarios. A larger deductible need not produce a particular saving.

Accepted terms & timing

Underwriting can alter price or benefits, or lead to rejection. Start dates, payment basis, renewal terms and, for travel, destinations, duration, activities and insured trip losses also matter. No premium or acceptance is guaranteed.

  • Hospital room category and the impact of upgrades on associated charges.
  • Exact local network, outpatient arrangements and a fallback reimbursement process.
  • Planned-treatment authorization and emergency-notification rules.
  • Cancer and chronic treatment across inpatient, day-patient and outpatient settings.
  • Evacuation trigger, authorized destination and continuing treatment after transport.
  • Written medical acceptance, renewal clauses and relocation or home-visit rules.

Coverage in detail

01

Unexpected trip events, not ongoing healthcare

Trip medical benefits commonly address unexpected eligible illness or injury. They are not a substitute for routine consultations, chronic monitoring or planned treatment while residing abroad. Temporary IPMI is a distinct option to evaluate when regular healthcare matters.

Cancellation, curtailment, delays, baggage and liability depend on purchased sections and defined insured events. A changed preference or every disruption is not automatically insured; read exclusions, excesses, reporting duties and supporting-evidence requirements.

02

Single trip, multi-trip and maximum duration

Check insured start/end dates and the maximum duration of each trip. Annual multi-trip cover does not authorize a trip of any length. Confirm residence rules, departure/return definitions, purchase before travel, extensions and travel already underway. No universal maximum duration is stated here.

03

Emergency inpatient and outpatient care

Eligible emergency treatment may occur in either setting, but this does not mean routine outpatient care is included. Check emergency dental, follow-up, medicines, pregnancy-related emergencies and continuation after returning home. Non-emergency or planned treatment may be excluded.

04

Destinations, US travel and activities

Ensure every destination and transit location is eligible under the selected area. Check US inclusion, official travel-advisory exclusions, sports, motorcycling, altitude, diving and work activities against the actual itinerary. Rescue costs and medical evacuation are different benefits.

05

Medical history and exclusions

A policy may exclude pre-existing conditions or offer a specific declaration/acceptance process. Follow the actual questions about symptoms, tests and medications. Check exclusions for alcohol/drugs, unlawful activities, unattended belongings and excluded events where relevant; benefit names do not establish eligibility.

06

Excesses, cost sharing and assistance

A travel excess may apply per claim, person or benefit section. Check whether percentages or sublimits also apply. Direct billing is not universal: contact the assistance team for eligible admissions and obtain approved payment arrangements. Be prepared for deposits and reimbursement.

07

Evacuation, repatriation and claims

Assistance-approved evacuation may be to suitable care, not a chosen hospital or home country. Repatriation and return transport have separate terms. Do not self-arrange costly transport without approval unless the policy permits an exception.

For urgent illness, seek care and notify assistance as required. Keep medical and payment evidence. For trip losses, obtain carrier/police reports where the wording requires them and observe notification/claim deadlines. Request written reasons and appeal guidance for a disputed decision.

08

Renewal and how to choose

A new annual policy or extension may have different terms; travel cover is not an ongoing guaranteed-renewable healthcare contract. Compare dates, destinations, activities, insured trip value, excesses and accepted medical conditions. Confirm what happens if illness prevents your scheduled return or treatment continues after cover ends.

Different risks. Different protection.

From appointment to claim

1 · Before treatment

For planned care, ask about benefit eligibility, referrals, provider branch and required authorization. Get an estimate and your expected contribution. Urgent care must not wait for an online chat.

2 · At the provider

Confirm whether direct billing is approved for this service, not merely whether the hospital appears in a network. Keep a backup payment method for deposits and non-covered costs.

3 · Submit & follow up

Use the insurer’s approved document channel. Retain itemized bills, receipts, prescriptions and approval records; meet the policy deadline and keep the claim reference.

4 · Understand the decision

Match accepted charges and cost sharing to the settlement. Ask for written reasons, missing evidence and the appropriate appeal route. An adviser cannot guarantee payment or authorize treatment.

Evidence and next steps

Evidence & verification scope

Educational guidance, not independently verified policy or eligibility facts.

No current first-party policy version or claim-specific verification date is recorded. Request current wording and a dated quotation; verify personal eligibility with the responsible official authority.

Opening an official reference verifies the reference only, not every statement on this page, an individual entitlement or a future rule. Policy issuer, version and personal scope remain to be confirmed.

Start with the actual policy documents.

Ask about Travel Insurance, current wording and the appropriate next steps. No medical records in the initial message.

Questions before you buy

Friends sitting arm in arm looking out over a city
Can travel insurance cover a trip of any length?

No such guarantee applies. Single-trip and annual multi-trip products set duration rules. Check the maximum length of each trip and extension conditions in the current wording.

Does annual multi-trip cover mean I can stay away all year?

Not necessarily. Each trip can have its own maximum duration, residence requirements and return-home definition. Confirm these before an extended stay.

Can I use it for routine appointments while living abroad?

Do not assume so. Trip medical generally focuses on unexpected events. Evaluate IPMI or other healthcare arrangements when you need regular or planned care.

Is every cancellation insured?

No. Cover depends on purchased benefits and specifically defined events, purchase timing, exclusions and evidence. Read curtailment and cancellation separately.

Are my existing conditions covered in an emergency?

An emergency does not override a pre-existing-condition exclusion. Use the insurer's declaration process if available and obtain explicit written acceptance.

Does direct billing mean all my treatment is cashless?

No. Confirm your plan, provider branch, eligible service and authorization. A deductible, copay, excluded item or deposit may remain payable. If direct billing is unavailable, ask about reimbursement and keep itemized evidence.

What is the difference between evacuation and repatriation?

Evacuation normally concerns a medically necessary transfer to suitable care under the assistance team's approval. Repatriation concerns a defined return journey. Check destination, approval, escort costs and subsequent treatment; neither is a promise of a flight home on demand.

How do I claim?

For planned care, check referrals and preauthorization first. In emergencies, seek care without delay and notify assistance as required. Keep reports, prescriptions, itemized bills and receipts, submit through the insurer's approved channel within deadlines and ask for written reasons if a claim is declined.
