The cost of private hospitals in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s private hospitals are among the most expensive on the planet. If you want to know more in detail their costs (in Hong Kong dollar), this guide is for you. We will see in detail the cost of rooms in the 13 private hospitals of Hong Kong. It is important to note that the more expensive  a room is, the more expensive the care and doctors will be for the same service. So remember to ask for your doctor’s rate according to the different rooms available.

A little vocabulary

The private rooms

Private rooms allow you to be the only resident of the room. They have their own toilets and may have many other additional options such as having a night companion depending on the price you pay.

The semi-private rooms

They are a room you share with another person, separated by a curtain. You also share the toilets, and there is the possibility of having a companion for the night in some cases.

The ward

You share this room with different people that require similar care. They range from 3 to 14 people which are separated by a curtain.

Resident or non-resident?

Residents are all those who have a Hong Kong ID card. The possession of such a card is necessary to have reduced costs on care

Lodger accommodation

Indicates the price to pay for a night companion.

Deposit

A deposit is required on admission, payable in cash, bank card, cheque, electronic wallet, etc. Some hospitals have insurance arrangements, which can directly cover the deposit, so be sure to check with your insurer if the deposit is covered.

What does my insurance cover?

You have to be very careful about your insurance when you’re in a private hospital. Insurance can be limited to the care of semi-private or the ward.
